What to Bring to a Notary Appointment in Florida
The four things every signer needs — and the one mistake that can force a notary to walk away.
1. A valid, government-issued photo ID
A current driver’s license, state ID or passport. The name on the ID must reasonably match the name on the document. Expired IDs generally cannot be accepted.
2. The unsigned document
Bring the complete document — and do not sign it beforehand. Florida law requires the notary to witness your signature in person. A pre-signed document usually has to be re-printed.
3. Any required witnesses
Some documents — wills, certain powers of attorney — require one or two witnesses in addition to the notary. Tell us in advance and we can arrange witnesses for you.
4. Awareness and willingness
The signer must be alert, aware of what they are signing, and signing of their own free will. For hospital and hospice signings this matters especially — we confirm capacity respectfully before proceeding.
